Your ideas are good ones. But the products are already there.
1) Watching TV on PC has been there for a while. The recent push of eHome or Media Center from Microsoft is the latest attempt in this category. All major PC and CE manufacturers have this kind of products which can do all the things you mentioned.
Thank you for the information. It really open up my view, how come I never heard of MS winXP media center when it's a such a big deal, apparently MS marketing didn't do a very good job:) MS WinXp Media Center Couple of difference between my product and MS product though: currently I'v only seen desktop-like media center PC, my product is laptop based, although this is not the point, i am sure HP, Dell are also developing laptop media center. Media Center PC depend strongly on OS to operate, while I propose seperate stereo, CD, DVD, DVR from main computer even though they share the same resource. To be hosnest, in any events, Media center is pretty close to what I have in mind. I was WRONG to say to PurpleStone that no such product existed. My other point is that the technology that enable all these is not hard, a chinese manufacturer can take on HP and Dell and go to the market and take the market share quickly. Another point is that the majority of customer will not buy such product without projector or very big screen HDTV. There may be some early adoptor. But it will not "cross the chasm", it will probably fail like WebTV and Network Computer. Do you think anyone really wonna watch TV on their computers? Not thought so. Anyone really gonna surf the net from their TV screen even if it's 52' projection TV, Not thought so.
2) We have seen the projectors getting market shares mainly in business use. Home application is still very small before its brightness can compete with other large screen display devices. Your reasoning for such large screen used in TV is also in question. You can not keep the PC viewing angle when you watch TV, even HDTV. The ratio of viewing distance to screen size is more than 7 for SDTV, about 3 or 4 for HDTV. This is the distance at which you will not see the scan lines.
I never notice anything annoying when I set close to the screen during a presentation. I guess it's more a problem of moving video than static image. There's an old trick though, you can tune projector only slightly out of focus, and you will get rid of scan lines. With current technology of projector, scanline is not a problem and will be even less so as the technology improve. Brightness is a problem though, but I think people can put up with it. (I wish!) It's better than movie theatre. Also that's why there's need for product 3.
3) Related to 2)
Indeed
4) You don't even need a trackball. Please check https://www.gyration.com
I saw gyration's wireless keyboard and mouse in Bestbuy, I didn't know they have this sleek in-the-air mouse. It's much more expensive than trackball version but I guess it navigate more like a normal mouse, good job.
5) You already know... yeap!
Although like I said I have no interest to pursue any of these products, I really appreciate your inputs.
