Consolidating..
Dow trades within clear consolidation throughout session, awaits breakout.
From prior commentary, "...The Dow ended the day near the lows of the session and closed within the boundaries of a tight consolidation. More near-term weakness is likely within the current overall downtrend..."
The Dow traded mostly sideways throughout the session, as the index continues to build out within the boundaries of the clear consolidation pattern, as seen in the 15 Minute Chart. The index closed the day with a gain of 34 points ad remains within the consolidation's boundaries, which we will continue to watch tomorrow.
The 60 Minute Chart shows the Dow remains within the very bearish downtrend that began in May. The fact that the Dow has formed a consolidation at the lows of the downtrend is quite bearish and could lead to another decline of about 210 points from the breakout point of the range. Watch 12,115 up, and 11,980 down tomorrow for the next 210 point move.
Short Term Dow
The Dow closed the day beneath intraday resistance at 12,115, seen in the 5 Minute Chart. Watch this level closely for early direction tomorrow.
Medium Term Dow
In the medium term, we are still out of the market and will watch 12,350 for Longs, but will hold off on Shorts at this time; using 25 point stops.
NASDAQ & S&P
The NASDAQ and S&P each pushed higher from lows, but remain within their respective ranges, which we will continue to watch tomorrow.
Summary
The Dow closed the day off the session's highs and within the bearish consolidation pattern. Look for the Dow to continue to build out within this pattern until a breakout occurs
