Talking about 世界不雅名字 there is one close to Tokyo, Japan. During my recent trip I met a phd student from Japan. When I asked her where from, she said Ji Ba. 俺吓一大跳！ Where?? Ji Ba, she repeated. My God, I asked her to write it down for me: 千叶. She told me her parents have loaned money for her education in America. To save money she can only go back to Japan every 1.5 years or 2. With a shoe string budget she rents a cabin without kitchen, no bathroom or shower and no water, which still costs her $300 per month. When the weather in the winter time was 50 plus below zero, I mean below zero not below freeze! she still had to ride a bike out to campus to get water, take shower, and answer nature's calls. I could not believe she was doing this. She told me her mom has saved every receipt for her debts so she feels pressure to save every penny possible. She said every time when she had the desire to buy something nice for a young lady as she is, she ends giving up the idea just by thinking about her debt load. To help her in a better financial situation, I have offered her a few hours of free consultation including how to get tuition waiver, fellowship, or teaching assistantship. However, she seems like never knew she could apply for all those. When I was talking she was nodding all the time and even wrote down the notes.... How come a middle-class Japanese parent would do things like this???
