I have been to a few places in China and I thought it was interesting to observe the different ways of enjoying tea or have some to do with tea in different part of China:

Go to Chengdu, you find people MaJiang every where even inside the complex of temples, and God knows those folks know how to live their lives as they are doing nothing but that all the time and all the places. The always order tea but they do not seem to care what kind of tea they get as they do not pay real attentions to the tea they ordered. That is just a way to earn their right to occupy the seats and table for their Majiang.

Then, in Hang Zhou, I like tea, the long jing tea there, guess ome of the tourists there too. but ever noticed what age group are in the tea market? one time I pulled the door of a taxi and told the drive to go to a bar (as i wanted to find out what was it like in Hang Zhou) and this was in the total dark of evening while before I even sat in the taxi, the driver actually told me" Bar? Folks at your age should go to tea house!" so there you have it, if you are not in your 20's, tea house is where you belong in Hangzhou.

then going to Beijing, you will find tea house is a good place for business discussions: it is cheaper than dinner arrangement and yet shows some good taste, most importantly quiet too...so hey, if 100 rmb per head is too rich for your blood, then you are not a businessman, not a good one there anyway.

now going further north, to the northeast, what about the tea culture there? maybe it is just me but never figured this one out because never found a tea house around there
