COMPANY
Our client is a specialist telecom power company, meeting the power needs for the telecom industry worldwide. They design, manufacture and market power solutions for the wired and wireless telecom networks. They have strong global positions in the Americas, Europe and Asia, serving multinational, regional and national builders of telecom infrastructure. They have a top modern plant for system assembly and engineering in Dongguan.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Report to the Chief Operating Officer
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The main charter for the MD, China is to revamp and and revitalize the PRC sales organization in a gradual, phased manner. His/her immediate task is to stabilize the existing sales force and then, over time, improve the bandwidth of the sales management by judiciously hiring senior sales executives who will be entrusted with major account responsibilities.
He/she will be tasked to grow the revenue in the China market, fully leveraging on the additional investments the Group has made in Dongguan. Methodically, he/she will optimize business opportunities by prioritizing the market segments according to size, maturities, approach channels and returns.
To accomplish his/her mission, the MD, China is expected to build a sales and service organization which could support the growth, while at the same time, personally attending to major relationships with major accounts. He/she would be responsible for developing sales of product lines in the China market. He/she will focus on both multinational clients as well as indigenous accounts.
Other accountabilities will include:
To develop and implement the overall marketing and sales plan to achieve sales and profit targets for China.
To identify appropriate sales opportunities, drive key customer relationships and lead commercial negotiations where applicable.
To keep abreast of current trends, economic conditions and growth opportunities as well as monitor and advise management of competitive activities in China.
To train and develop a highly skilled and motivational local team, improve their bandwidth, and to imbue the work force with a strong and spirited healthy culture in order to increase effectiveness and drive for desired performance.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The successful candidate will have at least 15 years of sales experience with another multinational company engaged in telecom manufacturing industry. Apart from possessing sales prowess and maturity in handling major accounts, the individual should have prior experience in operating effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-location, matrix organization.
With a proven track record of success in China, ideally the finalist should have prior experience in managing the sales and manufacturing operations of another telecom and/or networking equipment vendor. We will also consider individuals who are working for other high tech companies which supply to precision equipment.
In addition to industrial knowledge and functional competence, personality and leadership qualities which are essential for this position, the MD, China should be an effective business and team builder, who can provide the leadership and communicate long- and short-term goals throughout the organization. He/she needs to be not only strategic in setting goals but also hands-on in implementing and achieving business plans and objectives. He/she will be positively forceful in making an impact and yet tactful enough in dealing with intricate and sensitive organization and people issues.
As MD, China, the individual must have the maturity and stature to be able to deal with senior government officials and technocrats from government bodies, with confidence and presence. He/she will have strong personal qualities to be able to quickly gain the respect of those he/she comes into contact with, including his/her subordinates, counterparts, as well as European colleagues.
The ideal candidate will be a university graduate, with a technical and/or business designation. He/she must be a leader who can command respects and be accepted as equal by his peers within the company. He/she must have the energy, tenacity, and excellent communications and presentation skills. Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory. Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and other Chinese dialects, such as Cantonese which is spoken in Guangdong provinces, will be a strong plus.
Finally, in so far as the position will be vested with considerable authority and autonomy, the appointee must have integrity and an ethical standard which is beyond reproach.
